KEZIA

Unique and cinematic, KEZIA likes to term her commercial work as “boutique”. With a strong appreciation and awareness of the cinema, particularly vintage movies, and an interest in contemporary theory, KEZIA enjoys playing with the notions of film and stardom, together with fusing genres, eras, costume and dance.

KEZIA's relationship with 2AM started immediately upon signing with a Danone Shape campaign for RKCR / Y&R. Striking work of KEZIA's prior to signing with us includes the 2005 Herringbone commercial ‘Love Story’, which marked her directing debut in advertising with a distinctive and tasteful style. Before Herringbone KEZIA became aware of her visual aesthetic; after acute appendicitis, “where I nearly died, twice”. It changed the way she saw the world, as well as colour. The quirky cyber-bubblegum pop style evolved and developed into something decidedly darker. Although her aesthetics may have changed, since graduating Elam School of Fine Arts in 1998, the producing, writing, directing and designing of shorts, animations and documentaries has given KEZIA a wealth of experience and confidence for her directing, post 2005.

KEZIA's short films have always been well received by both local NZ and international festivals. These include ‘Sweet As Candy’ (2003), ‘Paperdoll Girl’ (2000) and ‘Cyber Kicks’ (1999) all of which Kezia has written as well as directed. Her most recent short sees a venture into the non-traditional landscape of an ‘adults only’ brief for an online Schweppes campaign in partnership with Publicis Mojo. Directing one of the four shorts, KEZIA's stylish offering ‘Jet Black’, the story of a time-traveling killer, gave KEZIA an opportunity she relished; to twist noir and thriller genres into something dark and new in this 10 minute short.
