'Enter the Void' centres on Oscar and his sister Linda who, as children, saw their parents killed in a car crash which they themselves survived. As adults they are re-united in Japan, where he's a small-time drug dealer and she's a stripper. One night Oscar is killed in a police raid, but true to a promise he made Linda as a child – that he would never leave her – he refused to abandon the world of the living. His spirit hovers over the city, and we see events through his eyes. His visions grow ever more nightmarish and distorted, as past, present and future merge.
Synopsis by Sandra Hebron, London FIlm Festival
Gaspar Noe’s introducing the film said ‘I always wanted to make a movie which looks like how I saw things when I was on drugs.’ So in a few words: a beautiful, intoxicating, sense attacking, neon lit, technically fascinating, brilliant head fuck! Enfant terrible of the French cinema has made a film so complex so layered so visually stunning that it will have your head spinning for days. I won’t say much more. Go see it but prepare to be fully committed to it and I advise you not to enter the cinema with a hangover.
