If you like the box art of Joseph Cornell and John Dilnot and the wonderful dark world of Brothers Quay or if you find yourself watching ‘The Life Aquatic’ for the umpteenth time always looking forward to the wonderful cross section of captain Zissou’s ‘Belafonte’ then you will love Marc Giai-Miniet ‘Les boîtes’ (The Boxes).
The bearded Frenchman has created a number of beautifully dark, intricate and intriguing ‘dollhouse’ structures that in cross section show spaces that look like offices, laboratories, libraries, factories, engine rooms, submarine garages. They are messy yet organized, there is unrest and a sense of eerie calm and so much more for the eye to study and for the mind to weave stories from. Can’t exactly see Silvan family paying a visit to one of those but could make for an interesting game of a murder mystery involving them. Definitely something that could find a good home in Burton/ Bonham-Carter household.
